How to prepare 100% natural Shea butter from scratch in the easiest way plus how to identify original Shea butter

I wish the article could be titled 'How to prepare Shea butter in ten minutes'. However, it's not possible or rather I don't know any quicker way to prepare Shea butter. What I know is the surest way to get your hundred percent natural Shea butter.  Ingredients :  Shea nut Water Equipment needed Bowl  Sieve Mortar and pestle   A sample of ripen Shea nuts Procedure: - Pick the Shea nuts from the tree or buy them. The Shea nuts  usually fall by June/July. They are gotten from the Shea fruit - Remove the hard shell by drying in the sun for  days and breaking them  or parboil the nuts and break them -Break the parboiled nuts into smaller pieces for ease of grinding preferably using a mortar and pestle -Grind into a smooth paste using engine ( some people wouldn't like to grind the Shea fruit because of its oily nature. So, another alternative is to pound with mortar) - Add water to the paste and sieve using a cloth sieve. If the weather is cold, it's advi...

Zikora by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche

If you are a lover of books; fiction and non fiction especially those from African descent, I'm certain you must have come across the works of this famous Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche. Her works are always thought provoking, she writes the type of books that will make you question accepted societal beliefs. Zikora is a short story of a thirty nine year old woman who falls pregnant and is abandoned by the father of her child who was formerly in love with her.  We are introduced to the complicated life of Zikora as she lays on the hospital bed labouring to birth her baby. Through flashbacks, the story of her life prior to her pregnancy unfolds. She is a successful lawyer, an immigrant of Nigeria descent residing in America, who fell in love with a Ghanian lawyer Kwamme, they were so in sync with each other, shared same values and understood their individual culture; which were similar. Hence, it came as a big surprise to Zikora when her sweet, sophiscated boy friend aband...

THE UNFORTUNATE PLIGHT OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY LECTURERS

The argument revolving around the survival of the educational sector in general and Nigerian universities in particular has been raging for decades. But never have we come so close, face to face, with an imminent collapse unless drastic measures are taken. In this article, I will be as analytical, objective and as factual as possible so that those who pretend to be deaf might hear. By this exposé, I intend to rouse all and sundry to rally round the Nigerian Lecturer and put up a last minute struggle in order to forestall the looming tragedy.  *The First Shock The Nigerian Lecturer is the most abused, misused, exploited, misunderstood and manipulated civil servant in the country. When he assumes duty, he is sent into the fray empty-handed. He is not given any kick-off allowance and to begin with, he has to save up money for months to buy the laptop which he will use to discharge his duties. I am sure you know that a good laptop costs between #200,000 and #500,000, or even more. Now ...

Six annoying behaviours by Nigerians on what's app....

Photo Credit: Shutter Thanks to Uncle Covid, me and many other Nigerians spent many hours on our phones: surfing the internet, browsing social media, with the most popular; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the baba of them all What's App . Due   to the number of hours I dedicated to social media especially What'sApp, it won't be presumptuous to state that I picked on patterns of behavior by peeps on social media. For today, I would like to talk about a unique set of individuals - the matured What's App users. Like every other person, they spend hours on the social media sites, unlike regular users of the app, they are distinguished by the way the interact on the app. You can spot them thus: 1. Those who are there for business :  These set of people did not come to play at all. Having heard that social media is the new gold mine, they are determined to maximize it. Their main interactions on what's app include, advertising their business on what's app status, an...

Lessons from Uncle Hashimu

I grew up in the inner part of Zaria which was predominantly occupied by the Hausas, in a place called Chikaji. The unique thing about my childhood is that I spent much of my time in my dad’s chemist shop. We lived a very triangular life, from home straight to school then back home. We dare not spend extra time in school or else my Dad go change am for you as Nigerians would say. He trained us in the Idanbosky style, he wasn’t a preacher of indiscipline.  As a result of my upbringing, I didn’t have much friends my age and the environment where we were we couldn’t make friends there because of the social and cultural gap that abound between us and the people in that environment. The above story is a background to the subject on ground which is ‘Hashimu’ He was our nearest neighbor. Physically, he isn’t tall, has what our Naija people call a big man’s body that the type of people who are always plump whether they are healthy, sick, poor or rich, on his face is a tribal mark drawn fr...

My #MeToo Story by Glorya Gabriel

Many years ago as a young growing girl, I had this dude who was relentlessly on my matter! Small pikin wey I be o, 'prolly' 14 at the time or so, can't exactly remember anymore. Was just growing 'bress' sef (wey never mature) yet, this 'Nwa Boy' (apprentice for Igbo Traders) wouldn't take his eyes off me! I should attribute this to the environment in which we lived at the time. It's a very large compound fondly called 'civilian barracks(although not a face me I slap you sha 😂😂😂) ', going by the largess of the compound, plus the legion of tenants. Lmao Dude wasn't even my neighbour, but because he served as an apprentice on my street, alongside having friends within our premises, he somehow found a way to always stop by our compound to do a thing or 2. Our house was at the back of the main building, and as such quite hidden from public glare. As a matter of fact, till One (newbie) took a stroll to that part of the compound, One would ne...
